Paraguay Trademark Registration for Foreign Entrepreneurs

Trademark registration can protect the name, logo or other distinctive sign used to identify your products or services in Paraguay. Applications are processed by Paraguay’s National Directorate of Intellectual Property, known as DINAPI.

1

Assess the trademark

The proposed mark, intended commercial activity and potentially similar existing marks are reviewed before filing.

2

Receive written guidance

You receive preliminary written recommendations concerning the proposed mark, classification and identifiable filing risks.

3

Decide whether to proceed

The filing-stage payment is only requested after the assessment and your authorization to continue.

No automatic filing: the assessment is designed to identify apparent problems before an official application is submitted. It cannot guarantee acceptance or registration by DINAPI.

USD 600 Total, Paid in Two Stages

You do not pay the complete package upfront. The process begins with a professional trademark assessment and case-opening service for USD 300.

Stage 2 · Paid later
Official Trademark Filing
USD 300 Paid after assessment and approval
  • Final confirmation of the proposed mark
  • Confirmation of the selected trademark class
  • Preparation of the standard application
  • Coordination of filing before DINAPI
  • Local handling of the standard application
  • Confirmation that the filing was submitted
  • Basic status communication during the ordinary procedure
Standard package scope: the advertised price applies to one proposed trademark filed in one Nice Classification class. Additional classes and exceptional procedures are quoted separately.

A Clear Five-Step Process

Each stage is explained before it begins, so you know what is being provided and when each payment becomes due.

1
Purchase assessment Pay the first USD 300 online.
2
Submit information Send the mark, owner details and business activity.
3
Review The proposed mark and relevant class are assessed.
4
Your decision Review the written recommendations.
5
Official filing Pay the balance and authorize submission.

What We Need to Start

After purchasing the assessment, you will be asked for enough information to identify the owner, understand the intended commercial use and evaluate the relevant trademark class.

  • The exact word, name or logo you want to protect
  • A clear logo file for a figurative or combined trademark
  • Description of the products or services
  • Applicant’s full legal name
  • Country of nationality or incorporation
  • Current address and contact details
  • Company information if the owner is a legal entity
  • Existing website or public use of the brand, when available

One Trademark Class Is Included

Trademark protection is connected to specified goods or services. Paraguay uses the international Nice Classification, which divides commercial activities into separate classes.

Goods

Goods classes may cover clothing, cosmetics, food, machinery, electronic products, software products and other goods.

Services

Service classes may cover advertising, retail, technology, education, finance, consulting and professional services.

Multiple activities

A business operating in several categories may require multiple applications and additional official and professional work.

Important: the Nice Classification includes 34 classes for goods and 11 classes for services. Under the Paraguayan system, each class generally requires a separate application.

How Trademark Registration Works in Paraguay

The exact course of an application depends on DINAPI’s review and whether a third party raises an objection or opposition.

Stage What happens Important point
Preliminary search Existing applications and registrations are reviewed for identical or potentially similar marks. A search reduces uncertainty but does not guarantee approval.
Classification The products or services are identified under the Nice Classification. The standard package includes one class.
Application filing Applicant details, the proposed mark and the list of goods or services are submitted. Filing does not mean the registration has already been granted.
Formal review DINAPI reviews compliance with the applicable formal requirements. Corrections or additional documents may be requested.
Publication The application enters the publication stage required by the applicable procedure. Publication makes the application visible to third parties.
Opposition period Owners of earlier rights may oppose the application. Formal opposition proceedings are not included in the standard package.
Examination DINAPI evaluates whether the trademark meets the legal conditions for registration. DINAPI alone decides whether the application is accepted or refused.
Registration Registration is granted if the application successfully completes the procedure. No fixed completion date can be guaranteed.

Why Register a Trademark in Paraguay?

Protect your commercial identity

Registration can strengthen your position when another business attempts to use an identical or confusingly similar sign.

Prepare for market expansion

Trademark protection may be relevant when opening a local business, licensing a brand or appointing Paraguayan distributors.

Create a business asset

A registered trademark may become an identifiable intangible asset associated with the reputation and activity of the business.

What the Standard Price Does Not Cover

Some applications require additional work that cannot reasonably be included in the standard fixed-price package.

  • Additional Nice Classification classes
  • Formal opposition or cancellation proceedings
  • Administrative appeals or court proceedings
  • Complex responses to substantive objections
  • Negotiations with owners of conflicting trademarks
  • Trademark assignments or ownership changes
  • Licensing agreements
  • Renewal of an existing registration
  • Notarization, apostille or legalization when required
  • Exceptional translation or courier expenses

What the First USD 300 Payment Covers

The first payment is not simply a reservation deposit. It purchases the professional assessment, written recommendations, case opening and preparatory coordination described on this page.

Before substantive work begins

If you request cancellation before substantive assessment work has started, contact EasyParaguay promptly so the cancellation request can be reviewed.

After the assessment begins

Once the trademark search, assessment, written recommendations or case preparation has begun, the professional service is considered in progress.

If filing is not recommended

An unfavorable assessment does not mean the assessment service failed. Identifying material risks before filing is part of the service purchased.

Second payment

The remaining USD 300 is requested only after the assessment and your authorization to proceed with the standard filing.

Payment structure: the online payment covers the EasyParaguay trademark assessment and coordination stage. The remaining balance is paid according to the instructions supplied for the official filing stage. EasyParaguay is an independent coordination platform and is not a law firm.
Before checkout, customers should have access to the Refund Policy, Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
